* * Last Week of December 2003 * * ![]() Hello, Merry Christmas, and Happy Holidays to one and all! As we wind down to the end of yet another year, I'd like to take this opportunity to again thank all the members of this website for being part of the eRock music auction group. And also to welcome our newest members aboard! We are a growing cyberspace community with a population of just over 4,000. Say that's the size of a small town! Maybe our little town of eRock should have a Mayor :-) Now wouldn't that be a first! Well...ending on that note, the new year ahead on eRock promises to bring some newly added features to the auction and improvements to some of the existing features too. These upgrades will be announced after the first of the year, so keep checking back for updates. * * First Week of December 2003 * *
* * Last Week of November 2003 * * A BIG Thank You goes out to Herb from San Antonio Texas along with a show of appreciation. Herb has been an active member and an avid supporter of eRock since becoming a member back in February of 2002. He recently convinced the EDGE a Texas rock magazine to post an article on eRock in the September 2003 issue. The article located in Edge's "Search Engine" page (8) reads like this:COOL WEBSITES Are you an eBay fanatic like myself? Then here's another site you might want to see. eRock at www.erock.net is an "eBay type" auction site that only deals in rock music items like records, CDs, and memorabilia. There are no fees for buyers or listing fees for sellers. The site also contains message boards, artist links, and contests. Herb Friedrich of HERB"S HUT wrote me to say that while it does not have the traffic of eBay, it's a good little site. "I have sold there for over a year and have had no problems with fraud, spam, or tech service," Herb said. I'd like to also mention that Herb currently has over 750 items listed for sale under HerbRocks. He's also been busy keeping the "Today's Rock Birthdays" posting up-to-date in the General Rock-n-Roll forum. * * Last Week of October 2003 * * This weeks Artist Link of the Week featured the official website for: Foreigner (Find link) While quite a few arena rock acts of the '70s found the transformation into the '80s quite difficult, Foreigner continued to flourish and enjoyed some of their biggest commercial success. Foreigner's leader and founding member from the beginning has been British guitarist Mick Jones. Their self-titled debut album was issued in 1977 and became an immediate hit on the strength of the hit singles "Feels Like the First Time," "Long, Long Way From Home," and "Cold As Ice,". As reported by the RIAA (Recording Industry Association of America), Atlantic Records dipped into its catalog to come up with six Foreigner titles:"Agent Provocateur" (three million), "Double Vision" (six million), "Foreigner" (five million), "Head Games" (three million), "Records" (five million). Each climbed the multi-platinum ladder while "The Very Best and Beyond" was certified platinum and double platinum bringing their cumulative total album sales to well over 31 million. With the overwhelming support of their loyal fans, Foreigner embarked on their 25th Anniversary Tour last year with renewed energy. And, the heart and passion to keep the music alive for the fans for many years to come. * * Last Week of September 2003 * *
This weeks Artist Link of the Week featured the official website for: Robert Palmer (Find link) Born Robert Alan Palmer on January 19, 1949, in Batley, England. Palmer, best known for hits Addicted to Love, Some Guys Have All the Luck, Didn't Mean to Turn You On, and Bad Case of Loving You (Doctor, Doctor) - died of a heart attack this week (Friday morning Sept. 26th) in a hotel in Paris at the age of 54. The famous video featuring a clutch of gloss-lipped, black mini-skirted deadpan models posing as backing band to the song Addicted to Love, is the late Robert Palmer's most enduring image. Palmer is survived by Mary Ambrose, his partner of 20 years, and two children, Jim and Jane.Our thoughts are with his friends and family. * * Third Week of September 2003 * *
* * Second Week of September 2003 * * This weeks Artist Link of the Week featured the official website for: Johnny Cash (Find link) Country rock legend Johnny Cash, known as "The Man in Black" and famous for songs like "I Walk the Line," "Ring of Fire" and "A Boy Named Sue," died today, Friday, Sept. 12th, 2003 at the age of 71, from complications from diabetes in Nashville, Tenn. Born on Feb. 26th, 1932, in Kingsland, Ark., John R. Cash was one of seven children.Cash arrived on the music scene during the birth of rock-n-roll in the late '50s with his simple records and powerful live albums. Generations of listeners discovered something of value in his voice. 1969 was the greatest year of Cash's career. He sells over six-and-a-half million records, more than any individual artist had (at that time) ever sold in just one year. 1980 at the age of 48, he becomes the youngest living inductee into the Country Music Hall of Fame. And in 1992, he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. This honor goes to artists who have had a significant impact on rock's evolution and have been recording for more than 25 years. Cash also becomes the only person ever inducted into Rock-n-Roll, Country, and the Songwriters Halls of Fame. He received 11 Grammy Awards between 1968 and 2002. Johnny Cash was cool. That can't be said for many who've made a living playing mixed country, folk, rockabilly, and gospel tunes. But the Man In Black was undeniably cool, a consensus that crosses genre and generation. To date...he is one of the very few people in the history of music to sell more than 50 million total records. He will be sadly missed by all. ![]() * * First Week of September 2003 * * Please note: This next message is directed to the Sellers here on eRock who are registered with PayPal® and currently place (or would like to place) the PayPal® logo and link in their auction listings here on eRock. PayPal® has again been going through more changes. First you should now be using the code shown below in your auction descriptions. Now don't forget to replace the words "YOUR EMAIL ADDRESS" with that of the actual email address you're registered on PayPal® with...or the link won't work. <BR><Center><!-- Begin PayPal Logo --> <A HREF="https://www.paypal.com/xclick-auction/business=YOUR EMAIL ADDRESS" target="_blank"><IMG SRC="http://images.paypal.com/images/lgo/logo3v.gif" BORDER="0" ALT="Pay me securely with your Visa or MasterCard through PayPal!"></A><BR><BR><img src="http://images.paypal.com/images/cards_check.gif" border=0> <!-- End PayPal Logo --></Center> And second, you should think twice about using PayPal's manually generated HTML form script codes for your listings on eRock because a. They are intended mainly to be used for listings on eB*y and their affiliate Y*hoo. b. In some cases a form script can partially disable the "edit a current auction" feature of the item listing it's placed in. And for that reason, I try and discourage sellers from running any kind of scripts in their auction listings. Please don't hesitate to let me know if you have any questions, comments, or need some help with copying and pasting the above HTML in your listing by responding in the Support forum. * * Last Week of August 2003 * * This weeks Artist Link of the Week featured the official website for: Iron Maiden (Find link) known for such powerful hits as "Two Minutes to Midnight" and "The Trooper," Iron Maiden was and is one of the most influential bands of the heavy metal genre. The often-imitated band has existed for over 20 years, pumping out wild rock similar to Judas Priest. Iron Maiden has always been an underground attraction, but they still became well-known throughout the world and have remained consistently popular throughout their career. Iron Maiden was one of the first groups to be classified as "British metal," and, along with Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin, and a host of other bands, set the rock scene for the '80s. Iron Maiden's new album "Dance of Death " is out, they're currently on a world tour, and they have a very cool website.* * Third Week of August 2003 * * This week I sent out a memo to all the members here on eRock. If you for some reason didn't receive yours, or you opt-not to receive our memos when you registered, then you are welcome to click here to read a copy of the actual memo.* * Last Week Week of July 2003 * * This weeks Artist Link of the Week featured the official Fan Club website for: Pat Benatar (Find link) Pat Benatar is a certified rock'n'roll superstar, a four-time Grammy winner with six platinum and four gold albums to her credit as well as such hit singles as "I Need A Lover," "Heartbreaker," "Fire and Ice," "Treat Me Right," "Hit Me With Your Best Shot," "Hell Is For Children," "Shadows of the Night," and "Love Is A Battlefield." Long acknowledged as one of the leading female rock vocalists in the industry. Current news: The latest schedule for Pat's new album, "Go", is for an August 12 release.* * Second Week Week of July 2003 * *
* * First Week Week of July 2003 * *
* * Third Week of June 2003 * * Music festivals enjoy ticket sales boom and a new generation of fans shunning club culture in favor of live rock music have been credited with the resurgence. Live music and guitar music is popular again, and has made a great comeback - perhaps with the younger generation as well. People who have been going to music festivals for the last couple of years have had a really good time and are telling their friends about it. The word is getting out! Go here to check out our list of annual festivals.* * Last Week of May 2003 * *
This weeks Artist Link of the Week featured the official website for: Led Zeppelin (Find link) Released by Atlantic Records this week, a 2-DVD (clocking in at 5 hours and 20 minutes) and a 3-CD "HOW THE WEST WAS WON" set marks the first-ever official release of these historic and extraordinary Led Zeppelin performances, which span the band's entire career. Long-rumored and eagerly anticipated, the sets each contain entirely different material, with no overlap between the two releases. With over 200 million albums sold worldwide, Led Zeppelin is the biggest-selling rock group in history. 2003 marks the 35th anniversary of the first fateful rehearsal which brought together the talents of guitarist Jimmy Page, vocalist Robert Plant, bassist/keyboardist John Paul Jones, and drummer John Bonham in the summer of 1968. * * Third Week of May 2003 * * On Wednesday the 21st at 3:30 am eRock's main auction server was taken off line for routine maintenance. All went smoothly and the auction was placed back on-line at 5:30am.* * Second Week of May 2003 * * At the request of some of the auction sellers, we have added the new "Times Viewed" feature to all of the individual item listing pages.* * Last Week of April 2003 * *
* * Third Week of April 2003 * * This weeks Artist Link of the Week featured the official website for: The Allman Brothers Band (Find link) Rarely does a band of the Allman Brothers Bands legendary status reach a second peak of creativity, performing ability and popular acclaim 25 years after the creation of the jam-oriented southern blues rock band. Inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 1994...the Allman Brothers Band were and still are one of the most exciting live bands ever to hit the stage. They became road warriors with a vengeance and leave devoted fans wherever they perform.
* * Second Week of April 2003 * * With all the rock music clothing being listed throughout the auction we had no problem filling a new category created this week specifically for these items. It has been decided to call this new category Music Apparel. You'll find the actual link on our homepage located just above Guitar Picks. If you have any questions or comments whatsoever concerning this new category, please post them in the Support Forum.* * First Week of April 2003 * * This weeks Artist Link of the Week featured the official website for: Phil Collins (Find link) Phil was born to play the drums; of that there is no doubt. His timing, sense of rhythm and sheer inventiveness have given him a unique style and sound, which is instantly recognizable, yet compatible with the many different styles of music. In 1970 Phil joined Genesis and for the next twenty six years played drums, sang, wrote and arranged songs, played sessions, and generally helped Genesis become one of the leading lights in the Progressive rock field. In 1996 he stunned many fans by announcing his departure from Genesis. He decided that a solo career was all he needed. With a new album in the pipeline, and a continued interest in all aspects of his past, Phil Collins has proved that there is no substitute for talent.* * Last Week of March 2003 * * When it rains it pours. Early Monday morning on March 31st, we had an issue with one of our UUNet lines. They did find and replace a defective F4 line at the CO. We reset the connection and our speeds went back to normal. At the same time the memory board in our main router went down and had to be replaced. Were the two problems related?...probably. What this all boils down to, is that eRock was not accessible from 12:15am till around 3:15am Pacific time early Monday morning. Sorry if anyone was inconvenienced.* * Second Week of March 2003 * * This weeks Artist Link of the Week featured a very good fan website for: Eric Clapton (Find link) The only triple inductee into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame (as a member of both The Yardbirds and Cream, and as a solo artist), Eric Clapton continues to astonish and delight a vast spectrum of music lovers. Its a legacy that continues with the release of Reptile, the ongoing journey in the lifelong musical odyssey of a true musical genius.* * First Week of March 2003 * *
* * Third Week of February 2003 * * Another great annual event was added to the festivals page on eRock this week. The website alone for this festival is worth visiting. Check it out, you'll see what I mean. And while there, make sure you click on their "General Info" page.The Reggae On The River Festival - August 1st, 2nd, & 3rd. Internationally acclaimed as three days of "the best Reggae and World music experience to be found". An annual pilgrimage for thousands each year to reconnect spiritually with friends, groove to the superb musical offerings and relax in the beautiful natural environment of the concert site. Located in Humboldt County along the Eel River, at French's Camp in Piercy, California. Approximately 200 miles North of San Francisco. * * Second Week of February 2003 * *
* * First Week of February 2003 * * Did you know that it was four years ago this week that eRock officially opened? Yes that's right, and we're still here thanks to all our loyal members. eRock's membership continues to grow with new people registering on the auction everyday. Our popularity on the Web is also growing with over 1535 (mostly music related) websites now linking back to us. If you're reading this article and you aren't yet a member, then please take this time to go here and register so you too can become a part of our growing auction community of rock music lovers.This weeks Artist Link of the Week featured the official website for: Heart (Find link) Ann and Nancy Wilson first showed the world that women can rock when Heart stormed the charts in the '70s with hits like "Crazy on You," "Magic Man" and "Barracuda." Heart has sold 30 million records, had 21 top 40 hits, sold out arenas worldwide, and had a profound influence on rock music. The best may be yet to come as Ann and Nancy prepare to record their first completely new Heart album in nearly a decade. * * Last Week of January 2003 * * Our Music Festivals page was updated this week to reflect new link addresses, some new music festivals, and last year's groups that attended. Visit the websites of these annual events for the latest news on the up and coming season. Most of the festivals we have listed lean toward the classic rock groups. Many of them are on private farms, ranches, and up in the hills like little Woodstocks. You could spend hours checking out these festivals just dreaming of a vacation on a farm at a music festival. Check them out for yourself, you'll see what I mean.* * Third Week of January 2003 * * Auction update: On Friday evening (the 24th) at approximately 9:30 pm Pacific Standard Time, eRock became inaccessible for about two hours. I was quickly notified that an SQL data base server that we had set up as kind of a staging server for testing, had decided that it wanted all of the bandwidth for itself. It was taken off line until further notice. Efforts were then concentrated on the auction servers to make sure that they weren't inadvertently effected in anyway. After running scans, tests, and generating reports, eRock received a clean bill of health. Sorry for any inconvenience or concern that this may have caused.This weeks Artist Link of the Week featured the official website for: Johnny Winter (Find link) Johnny Winter is an American music legend. Since his first appearance on the pages of Rolling Stone in 1968, Johnny has epitomized the fiery and flamboyant rock and roll guitar hero. Yet Johnny has continually returned to the blues roots from which his music sprang. Between 1968 and 1980, he cut fifteen albums that define the blues-rock form, ranging from the raw power of Rock and Roll Hoochie Coo to the subtlety of acoustic Delta blues. Two of his albums received Grammy nominations that solidified his presence as one of the top blues artists in the world. * * Second Week of January 2003 * * Our deepest condolences go out this week to all the Bee Gees fans around the world, along with the friends and family members of Maurice Gibb. Maurice, known affectionately as Mo, died at the age of 53 early Sunday morning on January 12th at a Miami hospital. He was the bass guitarist and keyboard player who frequently sang back-up and harmony vocals in the disco rock band the Bee Gees.This weeks Artist Link of the Week featured the official website for: The Bee Gees (Find link) Formed as a teen pop-rock group in the late '50s the British-born brothers had a string of soulful U.K. pop hits in the '60s and scored the chart-topping U.S. single "How Can You Mend A Broken Heart" in 1971. But they really hit their stride in the '70s when they reinvented themselves as a disco act. When Saturday Night Fever hit theaters, the Bee Gees were propelled to superstardom. The movie's chart-topping soundtrack album upwards of 40 million copies and yielded the sibling group three number-one singles: "Stayin' Alive," "Night Fever" and "How Deep Is Your Love." The seven-time Grammy-winning Brothers Gibb, sampled by everyone from Celine Dion to Wyclef Jean and inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1997, released their most recent studio album in 2001, This Is Where I Came In. * * First Week of January 2003 * * I sent out a New Year's memo to all the members here on eRock this week. If you for some reason didn't receive yours, or you opt-not to receive our memos when you registered, then you are welcome to click here to read a copy of the actual memo.We're starting off the New Year here at eRock by announcing a new auction category. As requested, VHS-DVD Music Videos has been added and there are already over 100 items in this new category. Check it out! To View Last Year's News Bulletin |
