* * Third Week of December 2001 * * This weeks Artist Link of the Week featured the Official website for:Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers (Find link) Induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame for 2002 comes as no surprise to fans that, as first-time nominees, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers are among the 2002 Inductees for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Selected from 16 acts that were nominated, the announcement was made by the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Foundation on Thursday, December 13. The Seventeenth Annual Induction Ceremony will be held in New York on Monday, March 18, 2002. VH1 will exclusively air the ceremony at 9:00pm (ET/PT) on March 20th, 2002. * * First Week of December 2001 * * I tried to dedicate our home page this week to remembering George Harrison. A different picture of George and a new headline story link about him was posted on eRock everyday since his death. Most of the daily news links that I posted were from the BBC News website. They did an excellent and thorough job of reporting this unfortunate loss. You can visit the BBC's tribute page by clicking on this little banner:This weeks Artist Link of the Week featured the Hari Scruffs fansite for: George Harrison (Find link) "George left this world as he lived in it, conscious of God, fearless of death, and at peace, surrounded by family and friends. He often said, 'Everything else can wait but the search for God cannot wait, and love one another.' " ~~ The Harrison Family * * Last Week of November 2001 * * George Harrison passed away this week in California on Friday the 30th with his wife Olivia and their son Dhani at his side. Another piece of our heart...lost. We, his fans, from all over the world, mourn the great loss of this very special person in our lives. I feel like I have lost a member of my family. George we love you and we'll miss you dearly. Our thoughts are with you...![]() 1943 - 2001 * * Third Week of November 2001 * *
This weeks Artist Link of the Week featured the New Official website for: Mick Jagger (Find link) This is really a fantastic website by Virgin Records promoting Mick's new solo album "Goddess In The Doorway". A must see for all you rock-n-roll fans! If your computer supports FLASH, and you have speakers, then make sure that you click on the "Preview Jukebox" link while there to hear samples of all Mick's new songs. I personally give his new album and website both a 5-Star rating. * * Second Week of November 2001 * * The banner link to Beatlology Magazine on our home page is currently inactive. I recently received an email on 11/13 from Andrew Croft which read: "Hi Bob, The Beatlology site is down for a few days - domain name transfer problem late last week but should be up and running in another day or so."
* * First Week of November 2001 * * This weeks Artist Link of the Week featured the Official website for: Creed (Find link) It's not easy these days to find a success story as genuine as Creed's, with all the carefully scripted rises to glory and the falls that inevitably follow modern rock careers built on hype. If any band in recent years can claim to have ascended strictly on its own merits, it's Creed. In just four years this Florida-bred rock band went from zero to selling more than fifteen million albums by virtue of a combination of finger-on-the-pulse songs and powerful live performances, rather than a raft of hype. Listen to a RealPlayer version of Creed's Riders on the Storm by Jim Morrison of the Doors. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised.* * Last Week of October 2001 * * This weeks Artist Link of the Week featured the Official website for: Joe Cocker (Find link) Who can forget the song "With a little help from my friends" (by Lennon/McCartney) that Joe Cocker sang and made into one of the anthem songs for Woodstock. In 1970, Joe sold over $3 million worth of records in America alone. His first three albums went platinum and Playboy voted him number one vocalist in their annual jazz and rock poll that year.I recently had the privilege (this week) of seeing Joe live in concert at the Sacramento Memorial Auditorium. My girlfriend Debbie and I had second row center seats so we got to see Joe and his band up close and personal. It's nice when you can actually see the facial expressions of everyone on stage. Joe put on a really good rockin' show and we had a great time there. You know...I've visited the websites of well over 350 different rock groups, and of all the websites, of the groups that I've checked out, Joe Cocker is the only one that opens up and shares a little of his personal life online with his fans. I mean, you get to see his (really nice) house, his lovely wife, their dogs, the restaurant he bought for his wife (which she runs), the Harley he bought her, and so much more. When you visit his website, click on the Mad Dog Ranch link for a more personal look at Joe the man. * * Third Week of October 2001 * * We have yet to received a response from the notices sent out to September's monthly drawing winner. If we don't receive a response by midnight October 31st, a new winner will be drawn from September's original entries.* * Second Week of October 2001 * * This weeks Artist Link of the Week featured the Official website for: Jimi Hendrix (Find link) Jimi's website is owned and operated by his surviving family members. This site has been recently updated and is a real Experience in itself.* * First Week of October 2001 * * Server status - On Sunday the 7th at 1pm PDT, the auction servers lost their connections to the internet for a period of 4-1/2 hours. A trouble report was generated right away and our internet backbone provider worked on the high-speed data line until it was back up at 5:30pm PDT. Although this situation was...for the most part out of our control, we may end up ordering a second data line from a different provider for backup. I do apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused and assure you that this wasn't a common occurrence here at eRock. Thank you for your understanding :-)* * Last Week of September 2001 * * This weeks Artist Link of the Week featured "the" website for: Led Zeppelin (Find link) Listen to a RealPlayer version of "Bring It On Home" from 1/9/70. Recorded at the Royal Albert Hall on Page's birthday. A very powerful live performance. Be sure you check out this great Led Zep site. Their archives contains samples of virtually ALL known demos/outtakes and clips from every Led Zeppelin tour (1968 - 1980).* * Third Week of September 2001 * *
* * Second Week of September 2001 * * I cannot begin to tell you the horror and sadness I felt Tuesday morning upon hearing about the the attacks on the U.S. Pentagon and the World Trade Centers. How could this happen? Like most people, I went through the day in a zombie state of mind, feeling somber and very sadden by it all. Let us all pray for the victims, their grieving families, and for the safety of all Americans. And please, give us the strength to survive this horrific tragedy. If you aren't a member of eRock, or you registered but opted not to receive memos from us, then click here to read the one we sent out to our members this week. * * First Week of September 2001 * * This weeks Artist Link of the Week featured the official website for: Bob Dylan (Find link) Dylan's new album "Love And Theft", one of the more anticipated music releases of the year, set to arrive in stores on Tuesday, September 11, Columbia Records has taken the unusual step of creating a specially-crafted television commercial, featuring Bob Dylan in a key role, to promote the album. For more info and his current tour dates, be sure to visit Dylan's website.* * Last Week of August 2001 * * On eRock's home page about two thirds of the way down, you'll notice the Daily Rock Music News. This is not just some automatic headline posting mind you. About six times a week (almost every day) I visit the music news websites of the world. There are eighteen sites that I try and concentrate my searches on. It's not always easy finding fresh news about the big name rock-n-roll groups. Sure there's plenty of news out there about pop, hip hop, and stuff like that...not so when it comes to rock-n-roll. I tend to shy away from stories about things like law suites and the like. When I find what I think is an interesting news worthy article that you as a rock-n-roll fan might be interested in, I post the headline of that article along with a link to it on eRock's home page. If you see a headline there that might interest you, all you have to do is click on it and you'll be presented with the actual article itself. So every time you visit eRock be sure to check out the latest Daily Rock Music News headline on the home page. I post it there for your pleasure.* * Third Week of August 2001 * * This weeks Artist Link of the Week featured the official website for: Janis Joplin (Find link) This website is produced by the family and estate of Janis Joplin. In 1966 Janis was offered the singing position in a relatively obscure group called "Big Brother and the Holding Company." They initially signed with Mainstream Records. Then during the summer of 1967--the "Summer of Love"--Big Brother played a large concert, The Monterey International Pop Festival. Janis smashed through her anonymity with Big Mama Thornton's "Ball and Chain" and the world took note. They then signed a three-record recording contract with Columbia Records, who bought out Mainstream's rights. Their "Cheap Thrills" album was released in August, 1968 and soon went gold. The rest is history! Janis's albums have gone gold, platinum, and triple-platinum. Her "Greatest Hits" album still tops the charts in Billboard. Several new releases have followed her death, with wide acclaim for her boxed set, "Janis." She was the subject of a 1973 feature documentary, "Janis," and numerous TV documentaries, the most notable being VH-1's Legends program. She is currently the subject of two hotly contested biographical movie projects. * * Second Week of August 2001 * *

Cream went on to sell 35,000,000 albums and were awarded the first ever platinum disc for "Wheels of Fire". This unfortunate situation was something we had no control over. Rest assured, this was a very rare occurrence here on eRock and I apologize if anyone visiting at that time was inconvenienced by this brief outage. This weeks Artist Link of the Week was the official website for: Black Sabbath (Find link) This is the news that I think just about every Black Sabbath fan has been waiting for for a long long time. More than 30 years has elapsed since The Moody Blues entered the music scene. Without doubt, their innovative and ground-breaking album "Days of Future Passed" which was released in 1966, must be one of the best classic-rock albums of all time. The album stayed on the Billboard charts for over two years and marked a milestone in rock history as one of the very first concept albums, recorded not only with a symphony orchestra but also in stereo, both uncharted territory at that time. * * First Week of February 2001 * * eRock opened it's doors two years ago this week. 2500 hours of work went into getting the auction ready prior to it's opening. They were born in the UK and began harmonizing to Mills Brothers songs as little boys, performing in local venues. The family, including newborn baby, Andy Gibb, immigrated to Australia when the twins (Robin and Maurice) were 8 and Barry was 11. As teenagers, they perfected their singing and song writing, learned guitar and piano. They sailed back to England as "Spicks and Specks" topped the Australian charts. Within weeks, first fame came with "Massachusetts" and "1941 New York Mining Disaster." The Beatlesque style went out of favor. Barry, Robin and Maurice packed up their wives and babies to relocate in Miami, Florida. Producer Arif Marsden encouraged them to develop an American Rhythm & Blues style as Barry discovered his falsetto. "Jive Talkin' " and "Nights On Broadway" put them back on top. Robert Stigwood took songs from a studio album they were working on and built the movie "Saturday Night Fever" around them. They wrote the title song to the movie "Grease". The Bee Gees donated all royalties from their number one song "Too Much Heaven" to UNICEF; the first artists ever to endow a charity in that magnitude. They launched brother Andy's solo career and were well on their way to giving the Beatles a run for their money by writing countless number one songs; when American radio began a feverish movement "Disco is dead, kill the disco kings."The Bee Gees were black-listed. This was unprecedented. No other artist has ever been attacked and scorned by American radio. Suddenly the Bee Gees were treated as a bad joke, in the very country where "All men are created equal..." This is where they were raising their children. Unable to squelch the songs that had to be born, they turned to writing for other artists, creating many of the biggest hits of their respective careers: "Islands In The Stream" for Kenny Rogers, "Guilty" and "Woman In Love" for Barbara Streisand, "Immortality" for Celine Dion to name a few. The Bee Gees also continue to release their own new albums to rock the rest of the planet. Barry's, Robin's and Maurice's deep understanding of the man/woman relationship fuels their love songs. It stems from their devotion to the girls they married as young men; consistently pleasing and adoring their wives as the decades pass. In 1997 the Bee Gees played a sold out pay-per-view concert in Las Vegas. Their flawless 12/31/99 concert in Sunrise, Florida proved the Brothers Gibb have (unbelievably!) further developed their vocal range, their melodies are absolutely infectious and they enveloped the audience into an "Irresistible Force" field to put on one Hell of a show. The Bee Gees new album, "This Is Where I Came In" with the title single, is set for a Spring 2001 release in the US and around the world. the great Bee Gees bio above. Visit Sherry's website shrine to the Bee Gees by going here. * * Second Week of January 2001 * * A number of eRock's members have commented that they would like to help spread the word about our music auction site. So I've been putting together some ideas on a web page for those who are interested. It's still somewhat in the composition stage, but you can look what I've got so far by going here to check it out. Please feel free to email me with your ideas. This weeks Artist Link of the Week was the official website for: Rick Derringer (Find link) This guitar great, vocalist and entertainer Rick Derringer was just 16 when his band "The McCoys" recorded the No.1 hit "Hang On Sloopy" in the summer of 1965, knocking "Yesterday" by The Beatles out of the top spot. "The McCoys" had enjoyed four years of successful touring, when Rick merged his talents with Johnny Winter in 1969 forming "Johnny Winter And" ("And" referring to "The McCoys"). For Rick's complete biography go here. Or for a Real Audio sample of "Wrong Side Of Paradise " click here. * * First Week of January 2001 * *
