This weeks Artist Link of the Week was the official website for: Dave Mason  (Find link)   At age 18, the Worcester, England native was one of the founding members of the group Traffic. While with Traffic, and only 19 years old, Mason penned the song "Feelin' Alright." This song has since become a rock and roll anthem having been recorded by well over 300 artists. In 1969 Dave headed for the USA to pursue a solo career. He struck gold with the album "Alone Together" (considered a rock classic.)

This was followed by three albums for CBS/Sony "Dave Mason," "Let It Flow," and "Mariposa De Oro," all of which received gold albums. "Let It Flow" contained the classic "We Just Disagree," a top-ten single! In addition to performing to sold-out audiences, Mason performed on a number of albums such as The Rolling Stones' "Beggar's Banquet," George Harrison's "All Things Must Pass," Paul McCartney's "Listen To What The Man Said" and Jimi Hendrix's "Electric Ladyland." One of the songs from the "Ladyland" album, "All Along The Watchtower," featured Dave playing guitar.

John Lennon Remembered
December 8th marks the 20th anniversary of John Lennon's death. It's still hard to believe he's gone.

This weeks Artist Link of the Week was a great fan website for: John Lennon  (Find link)   "Bagism" produced by Sam Choukriis, the place for fans of John Lennon and The Beatles to come together and learn, educate, and have fun. This has been one of my personal favorite Lennon websites for sometime now and is well worth the visit.

9:00pm PST 12/5/00 Tuesday evening - It was brought to my attention that many of the pictures in the auction listing were not showing up. Although this problem wasn't directly related to eRock, it just so happens that two of eRock's larger seller's are currently hosting many of their auction picture files on the same ISP, which I find out is owned by Earthlink.com. I then contacted Earthlink and was told that one of the servers that hosts their customer's websites and picture files had just gone down and that they were working to get this problem resolved as soon as possible.

Congratulations go out to Kevin from Waterloo Ontario in Canada for being the first second time winner of our monthly drawing! Kevin, the November winner here on eRock, also known as Bolan on the auction, responded to his winning notice by saying:

The Beatles new website was such big news on the internet and all, I just kept it in the "Artist Link of the Week" position the last two weeks for added exposure. TheBeatles.com

We had a battery backup unit on the main auction server go down this week at about 12:45 in the morning. The auction was unaccessible for 15 minutes while we replaced the battery backup unit with a new one. Fortunately it happened in the middle of the night and not in the middle of the day.

* * Third Week of November 2000 * *

I would like to wish everyone in rock-n-roll cyberspace a happy Thanksgiving! and to thank everybody out there for their ongoing support of our music auction site...now lets eat, sing, and be merry!

* * Second Week of November 2000 * *

I have decided to create a (more or less) formal privacy policy which we at eRock have always followed with regards to our members personal contact information files. If eRock is to form alliances with consumer protection organizations, etc., then it becomes necessary to have our company's policy regarding our member's personal privacy in writing. Links to the policy will be posted here and there on the auction. I am happy to make available for your viewing pleasure, the eRock Privacy Policy. Please feel free to email me if you have any questions or comments about this policy.

They were also one of the last bands to have an official website...but the wait is over. Their new official website went online Monday November 13th and can be found at: www.thebeatles.com. It really is a great site too!

* * First Week of November 2000 * *

A Christmas link here on eRock has been implemented. The link is located on the home page along with a number of other locations throughout the auction. Technically it is a pre-programed search link. If you click on it you will be presented with a list of items that are in some way Christmas related...like a Christmas album by Elvis Presley or maybe "A little Saint Nick" 45 by the Beach Boys.

And yes all five members will be there. Opening bands will be: 3 Doors Down and Oleander. It's important to note that this is only one show, that they will be performing in their hometown, and not a full-fledged comeback.

This weeks Artist Link of the Week was a nicely done fan website for: Mitch Ryder  (Find link)   Although Mitch Ryder's history may contain more ups and down's than any other singer in memory, his stature in the firmament of sixties' rock music is safely intact and indelibly linked to his string of national chart-topping records that first put the Motor City on the rock & roll map (not to mention your AM car radio) in the middle of the decade. Recognized as one of the all-time great white rhythm and blues shouters, throughout the era he fronted bands like the Detroit Wheels (and later, Detroit) that just plain rocked harder than almost anybody else, providing the sixties with one of the first and most lasting definitions of "rock and soul" music.

One of our distinguished member sellers here on eRock has come up with a couple of good ideas with regards to the auction. Brian from New Bedford Massachusetts, also known here on the auction as Vinylstage, has suggested that we add a new category for promotional records and CDs. Although sometimes a controversial subject in itself, promo items have become very desirable and popular among many of the music collectors. Therefore I have decided to concur with Brian's suggestion and add a Promotional Vinyl & CDs category to the auction. Click here to see Brian's other idea in the testing stage....soon to be implemented on the auction too. Thank you again Brian for your suggestions and support!

Feel free to email your ideas and or suggestions to us using this form page.

This weeks Artist Link of the Week was the official website for: Foreigner  (Find link)   The self-titled Foreigner debut album was released in 1977. Foreigner went on to cross the quadruple platinum sales mark. During its two year run on the national charts, the hits kept coming, beginning with Feels Like The First Time and continuing with Cold As Ice and Long, Long Way From Home. By the end of 1977, Foreigner walked away with the #1 spot in every major consumer and trade publication.

Twenty Three years and many great songs later, Foreigner still maintains a standard of musical quality, and a high level of popularity. Their continuous string of hits have become rock classics. Fans around the world have endorsed the band's progress with sales currently well in excess of 30 million records. And their sold-out concerts continue to be testimony to their stature as one of the best live rock bands in the business.
Click here to hear a sample of Cold as Ice.

* * Second Week of September 2000 * *

As eRock continues to grow and evolve, I have added a sixteenth category to the auction. This is one of my personal favorite items to collect, Pic Disc & Colored Wax. For those of you that don't know what that (record collector) terminology stands for, it means: Picture Discs and Colored Vinyl. You will generally pay a little more for these types of records, but it's well worth it in my opinion. Check them out for yourself and you be the judge.

While I was at it, I also modified the category description of 45 Vinyl Records. Now there had been some confusion as to where the seven inch 33 (rpm) EP (extended play) records should be listed. Why all the confusion you ask...well the main reason is that they (for the most part) look like a 45 record, and basically that's what the are. Except that they are played at a slower speed then your typical 45 (rpm) record. And that's why they are referred to as "Extended Play" or "EP" records. Also to make things a bit more confusing, the EP records have the small holes also typical of 33 rpm LP (twelve inch) record albums. Well anyway, to make a long and sometimes confusing story short, since the EPs are the same size as a 45 they have been included with the 45s. The category is now called: 45 & EP Vinyl Records, and so there you have it.

This weeks Artist Link of the Week was the official website for: Duran Duran  (Find link)   Duran Duran is a pop rock group that started off as a group of seven in the late 70s, they got their inspiration from the Beatles, their name from a character in the Jane Fonda movie Barbarella, and the rest is history. Check out their very cool website!

This week I added a link on our home page to NetRadio's Vintage (Classic) Rock channel with many great sub categories to choose from for your listening pleasure. There are a lot of net radio type stations out there to say the least. And much of the internet, the ISPs (your internet service providers), and the computer browsers themselves aren't really ready (as you will probably find out) to deliver/receive a real quality consistent signal. So I tried to find a simple user friendly net station that had been around for a while and which only required the bare minimum of plug-ins (aside from speakers) that most of you will already have in your computer. The pop up player that NetRadio utilizes is also very resource friendly and won't effect the performance of your computer like so many others do. Click here and give NetRadio.com a try!

* * Third Week of August 2000 * *

I have been working on a Music Festivals links page for sometime now and have come up with a page full of links that I hope you might find interesting if not resourceful. I can tell you one thing, I did learn a lot, and had a good time visiting all those websites posted by the music festivals. The sites on this list tend to be annual music festivals, and ones that include lots of really good rock groups. A link to the Music Festivals will be maintained on the home page. I think you'll be surprised...so if you have a minute, go here and check some of them out.

This the third week of May was some what uneventful here on eRock with everything running smoothly. I know there has been a lot of talk lately out there about computer viruses and worms. In case any of you were interested and or concerned, most online auctions, including eRock run their auction sites on servers (computers) separate from the mail servers. The incoming and out going e-mail is set up and run on two separate computer servers thereby minimizing the possibility of becoming infected. Even still we incorporate top of the line virus scanning software that is updated on a weekly and sometimes daily basis. So you can rest assured that all the e-mail that the auction automatically generates and sends you when bidding, selling, etc. will be free of contamination.

This weeks Artist Link of the Week was the Official Web site for: The Black Crowes  (Find link)   This summer's tour marks the much-anticipated return of last year's heralded and sold-out six date tour of JIMMY PAGE and THE BLACK CROWES performing on stage together.

THE BLACK CROWES' lead singer CHRIS ROBINSON said: "There's always been a pretty healthy dose of Zeppelinesque qualities to all of our records. You're talking about these archetypal, rock n' roll culture songs, y'know? You don't want to mess 'em up, man." THE BLACK CROWES' guitarist RICH ROBINSON also told Reuters: "I'm humble in the face of Jimmy and his work and all the amazing things he's done. But I'm also proud and confident in what we do. I knew deep down that, of any band, we're really one of the only ones that could have pulled this off well. And when we started playing the stuff ourselves...it just became more apparent."

For his part, JIMMY PAGE recently told Rolling Stone: "I've always thought the Crowes were one of the finest live rock bands around, period." He further noted in Wall of Sound: "I was amazed they had all the (Led Zeppelin) parts down, because they're difficult to play, and they're also difficult to hear in some places. It just really showed the measure of what good musicians they are. They had all the subtleties of the Led Zeppelin thing, but they also brought The Black Crowes to the party.

If you're a Led Zeppelin fan and or a Black Crowes fan, you most definitely don't want to miss out on this tour!

* * Second Week of May 2000 * *

This week we added a 14th category to our list of rock-n-roll selections. After numerous requests from collectors of vinyl records, a 45 Picture Sleeves category now exists on eRock. For those of you that aren't aware of it, record collectors will sometimes pay more for a good picture sleeve then the record itself. So even if the record isn't in good condition, hold onto those picture sleeves, they maybe worth some money.

Here is a nice e-mail from one of our members:

Hello, I just wanted to let you know that I really love your web auction house and it's about time that someone came up with a rock and roll auction house. I try to tell as many people about your web site as I can. I'm always talking about it as much as I talk about the Beatles. Gino (Beatle 2000)

This weeks Artist Link of the Week was the Official Web site for: Rickie Lee Jones  (Find link)   In the spring of 1979, Rickie Lee Jones' "Chuck E.'s in Love" appeared like an oasis in a desert of disco and arena rock. Over Steve Gadd's shuffle beat and a bed of bluesy acoustic guitars, Rickie told a young woman's tale of how friendship can be changed by love. She sang with passionate honesty, delving into places deep inside herself, and using a beat poet's vocabulary, she populated her songs with heartfelt vignettes of colorful characters. Her music was a melting pot of her influences. Blues, country, folk, jazz, soul and show tunes were seamlessly blended together by the cream of L.A.'s studio musicians on her exquisitely crafted songs. At the time, there was no one making music like Jones, but her influence on many singers who came after her? from Edie Brickell to Sheryl Crow to jewel - is clear. We will be choosing the winner for this month's drawing tonight just after midnight PDT. So keep your fingers crossed...and if you haven't entered the drawing for this month, do it now and you could win a $200 shopping spree!

On Friday evening the 28th we had a computer router switch go down at about 8:30 pm PDT. The auction server set off a number of alarms informing us it was no longer connected to the internet. The problem was quickly resolved in about 45 minutes and the auction back on line. We apologize for any inconvenience and concern this may have caused anybody.

This weeks Artist Link of the Week was the Official Web site for: George Thorogood  (Find link)   The Band is...George Thorogood on guitars and vocals, Bill Blough on bass, Hank Carter on sax, keyboards, guitars and vocals, and Jeff Simon on drums and percussion. Taking rock and roll for granted has never crossed George Thorogood's mind. Twenty five years after he and his Destroyers began hammering audiences with their distinctive brand of blues inspired rock, George remains as passionately committed as ever to the music that has served as his life's personal soundtrack. After fourteen albums, over fifteen million records sold, twelve hundred plus concerts and countless late nights listening to idols like John Lee Hooker, Howlin' Wolf and The Rolling Stones, George still approaches his craft with the same sense of awe and wonder as a child on Christmas morning.

This Weekly News Bulletin (yes the one you are currently reading) has been broken down into two pages...mostly so it will down load into your browser more quickly. If you happen to take the time to scroll down to the bottom of this page you will now discover a link to last year's Weekly News Bulletin.

Attention Sellers: We have decided to extend the No-Listing-Fees promo through to the end of this year so as to help encourage continuing growth. The only fees currently associated with selling items on eRock will be a small commission owed to the auction after your item sells.

This week we started placing a Daily Music News headline link on the home page. This will be updated with the latest news headline about five times (almost daily) a week. You just click on it and you will be taken to the actual article for all the details and then some. This news is so fresh that it will be days before it reaches the printed media. Find it here first!

This weeks Artist Link of the Week was the Official Web site for: Lou Reed  (Find link)   Lou Reed formed the influential Velvet Underground with Sterling Morrison, Maureen Tucker and John Cale in 1965, and under pop artist Andy Warhol's "guidance" gained a certainly notoriety, but sold few records. However, their influence on modern rock music is unequalled.

Reed left the Velvets in 1969, and after a two-year absence from the music scene released his self-titled first LP. It was largely overlooked, too. 1972's "Transformer," produced by David Bowie, gain a popularity, and spawned Reed's only hit single to date, "Walk on the Wild Side."

The early-to-mid-1970s were Reed's pinnacle with LPs such as the raucous live "Rock'n'Roll Animal" (1972), the dire "Berlin" (1973), and the reflective "Rock'n'Roll Heart" (1976).

In the 1990s, Reed came full circle, first with a "tribute" of sorts to Warhol on the album "Songs for Drella" (1990) with John Cale, then embarked on a brief Velvet Underground reunion tour (1993), resulting in a live Velvets album ("MCMXCIII"). The Velvet Underground were inducted into the Rock'n'Roll Hall of Fame in 1996.

Reed continues to be a non-compromising avant-garde artist (as opposed to being a "rock'n'roll star") and his latest album, "Ecstasy" (2000), shows that he is an innovative artist and musician.

The article above was contributed by Randy Foley alias T-bearx. Aside from being one of eRock's main record sellers for the past year, Randy brings to the auction his broad knowledge and profound interest in rock-n-roll music, it's history, performers, etc., from before the 50s to present. He is also the moderator for our Vinyl Record forum. So stop by the message board and say hi to Randy.

Congratulations go out to Kevin of Ontario Canada for being March's winner of our monthly drawing here at eRock. Kevin, also known as Bolan here on the auction, says: "This is great! I look forward to using my winnings. Thanks so much, Kevin"
You too could be our next winner...so don't forget to register for this months drawing!

This weeks Artist Link of the Week was the Official Web site for: The Allman Brothers Band  (Find link)   The embodiment of '70s Southern rock, the Allman Brothers Band formed in 1969 when accomplished session guitarist Duane Allman began collaborating with his brother Gregg (vocals/organ) and local musicians Dickey Betts (vocals/guitar), Berry Oakley (bass), Butch Trucks (drums) and "Jaimo" (drums). The band released their first album in 1969, and their second album "Idlewild South" in 1970 before their breakthrough 1971 double-live album, Live at the Fillmore East, established them as one of the top rock acts of the early '70s.

The Artist-Link page has been completely redone. Aside from the auction itself, the artist link section is currently the most popular feature on eRock. It used to be that you had no choice but to scroll through five long pages of random hyperlinks to your favorite rock groups. This week we gave it a brand new look, placed the links on one page instead of five, inserted navigational menu bars, and alphabetized all the artist/group links. Arranging the links in alphabetical order makes it so much easier to find a specific rock group, and you can still just scroll down the list if you'd like. Check it out!

This weeks Artist Link of the Week was the Official Web site for: Johnny Winter  (Find link)   Johnny Winter remains a deep, powerful and driving blues artist, a commodity even more to be valued after the recent untimely losses of so many of the music greats. Johnny is more than just a survivor or nostalgia act; he's a vital treasure who should be appreciated while we still have him to savor, for what he has been and what be still is. Surely the man who did so much to bring Muddy Waters such a glorious final stage of his career deserves similar accolades while he can enjoy them; they mean as much to him as he's meant to his legion of loyal fans over the years. But this isn't just a matter of sentiment or history, it's a matter of yet another pile-driving serving of Johnny Winter's tradition-rooted, but unique and legendarily masterful, take on the blues.

We have incorporated a new feature sometimes making it quicker for new members to register on eRock. It is a little search engine (located in the registration forms) that will let you search the member data base to see if someone else is currently using the user ID that you might like to use. This is also handy for existing members that are thinking about maybe changing their current user ID.

Another minor little change (almost not worth mentioning) is in the listing pages. When someone has an item listed on the auction with a picture for you to look at, we used to insert a PIC icon. It has now been replaced with a small green Camera . Yes that's suppose to be a camera :-)

Don't forget to enter this months drawing...only a few days left so don't just sit there staring at your computer screen, click here and enter the drawing! You too can win a $200 shopping spree here on eRock.

This weeks Artist Link of the Weekwas the Official Web site for: Three Dog Night  (Find link)   From 1969-1974, nobody had more Top 10 hits, moved more records, or sold more concert tickets. During this period Three Dog Night was undoubtedly one of the more popular bands in America: twenty-one consecutive Top 40 hits, eighteen straight Top 20s, eleven Top 10s, seven number 1s, seven million-selling singles and twelve straight gold LPs. By late '75, they had sold nearly 50 million records.

Everything on the auction has been running very smoothly this past month. We received no complaints from anybody regarding something not working right. The new auction servers seem to be operating near perfect.

Here on eRock we all have something in common and that something is Rock-n-Roll. So to help bring our little community of 1500 plus members together, we're pleased to announce that two of eRock's distinguished members have offered their services as moderators on three of the six forums in our new Bulletin Board. Let me tell you a little about these two members...

First there is Randy, alias T-bearx. Aside from being one of eRock's main record sellers for the past year, Randy brings to the forums his broad knowledge and profound interest in rock-n-roll music, it's history, performers, etc., from before the 50s to present. At one point his personal vinyl collection consisted of nearly 10,000 records. Randy says that he sometimes regrets selling many of his records because their values have since sky-rocketed. He is now working on a personal collection of CDs consisting of almost 3000. T-bearx will be moderating the Vinyl Record and the General Rock-n-Roll forums.

Our other distinguished moderator is Tamara. Many of you Rolling Stones fans may recognize her as Blue Lena. She not only has two of her very own Rolling Stones websites, she has been a big fan of theirs for 20 years, and she has seen 25 of their live shows in the US and Europe. Blue Lena is a member of the ALLexperts website (on which she answers fan questions) and she is secretary of the US Rolling Stones fan club. She is also a memorabilia collector, a guitarist, and has been a member of eRock for the last seven months.

Even if you are already registered on eRock, the bulletin board has it's own separate data base for security reasons. Therefore you will be required to register on the bulletin board in order to post to the forums. It's much easier and quicker then when you first registered on the auction, so please don't let registering again deter you from using the board. You are encouraged to use your eRock user ID and password. Check out the forums!

For those of you with direct questions pertaining to the auction itself, I'll be manning the Auction Support forum, stop on by, I'm here to help you if need it.

This will be an exciting addition to eRock and is now going through some finishing touches. This weeks Artist Link of the Week was the Official Web site for those legendary rocklords: Led Zeppelin   (Find link)   Now this is the second time in the last six months that this group has made Artist Link of the Week. The main reason for that is the fact that as of last November, Led Zeppelin became the third group to ever have four or more albums certified at diamond status (10 million albums sold) by the Recording Industry Association of America. In November, "Led Zeppelin IV" (1971) advanced to the 22 million mark, "Led Zeppelin II" (1969) moved up to 12 million, "Houses Of The Holy"(1973) climbs to 11 million, while "Physical Graffiti" (1975) holds at 15 million.

On Thursday of this week at about 3 pm PST we moved eRock onto some new custom built auction servers. These fuel injected turbo charged cyber monsters went through extensive beta testing and were shown to be extremely stable under high loading conditions. The move proved to be virtually transparent with no down time. We will be performing some fine tuning over the next two or three days, but this also should go unnoticed. The server upgrades will allow the auction to continue growing without any problems and will also allow us to add some new and exciting features that we will be announcing shortly.

This weeks Artist Link of the Week was the Official Web site for that great metal group: Iron Maiden   (Find link)   It is the take-no-prisoners attitude of this band which has served them so well throughout their career.
