There were some email issues left over from moving the servers. The auction itself automatically generates emails for: new and relisted single items, every time an auction listing closes, bidding confirmations, seller & bidder daily status reports, when someone registers as a new member, etc. Anyway these emails weren't going out and it took a couple days to get it all set up and working properly. The dust has finally settled from the move so-to-speak. If anyone sees something they think might not be working correctly here on the auction, please don't hesitate to let us know. Thank you!

I received the auction servers here in Sacramento California on December 20th. Spent Friday and Saturday going through the servers and making sure they survived the trip out from Florida. Ran tests on all the SCSI hard drives, the registered server memory, and performed some minor updates to the server software. I really wanted to perform some software and hardware up-grades. I didn't though because I already have new servers being built that I plan to move the auction onto in the next three months or so. This will greatly speed up the listing and re-listing process for the sellers, and the page viewing for the buyers. Plus I really didn't want to further delay getting the auction working again. What everyone was seeing while the auction servers were being relocated was an elaborate mock-up of the original eRock.net website.

The actual auction and website was restarted Monday afternoon. And the servers finished refreshing themselves by 12:30 am early Christmas morning. So we're officially up and running again. I would like to thank everybody again for their patience during what ended up being a 12 day move. Thank you and have a very Merry Christmas. Enjoy the Holidays!

Update on the auction move: I had the hard drives removed from the servers and shipped over night from Deerfield Beach Florida out here to Sacramento California and now have them safely in my possession. The auction servers themselves were placed in their original boxes and are on they're way out here by ground delivery. I suspect it will be Wednesday December 19th when they arrive here. Once I receive the auction servers I'll re-install the hard drives into them and give them a thorough testing. They will then be transported to a local Data Noc center here in Sacramento and re-connected to the Internet. And if everything goes well we should have the auction back up and running before Christmas.

The company that hosts the eRock auction servers in Florida was recently bought out and so I've decided to relocated the auction servers to the Sacramento California area to where my business is actually located. This will give us personal access to the servers which will allow us to ultimately migrate the auction onto new and faster servers.

I was expecting at least a weeks notice with regards to the actual move but was instead given a 24 hour notice. I'll be backing up all data this evening and turning off the auction engines between midnight and 2 AM Pacific Time this morning.

First we'll close just the auctions with bids on them so the sellers may complete the transactions.

Then we'll temporarily redirect the DNS to a duplicate of the eRock.net website that I've set up. It looks just like the original eRock website except that the listings won't be displayed and you won't be able to access your account. Also Chat room and the forums won't be accessible.

This transition will take 7 to 10 days to complete. I am very sorry about this, but it has to be done now. I apologize for any inconvenience or concern this may cause you. Your patience and understanding while the move is in progress will be greatly appreciated.

I will be posting answers to members concerns and progress reports here in the News page every couple of days on eRock, so keep checking back to view the updates.

Please feel free to email us directly with any questions you might have regarding this move.

Sincerely,

Bob Collette
Senior Administrator

I've recently updated the Artist Links page to eliminate any dead links that develope from time to time. Plus I've added some new links to the list bringing the total music Artist Links to 448. Feel free to suggest any "major" rock groups that you find aren't on the list. I'll be happy to review and add them to eRock's official Artist Links page. Click here to make your suggestions and comments.
